Humanity faces important challenges concerning the optimal use, security, and availability of energy systems, particularly electrical power systems transmission lines. In this context, data-driven predictive maintenance plans make it possible to increase safety, stability, reliability, systems. contrast, strategies such as dynamic line rating (DLR) optimize use However, these approaches require developing monitoring based on acquiring data in real-time using different types wireless sensors placed strategic locations. Due specific conditions lines, e.g., high electric magnetic fields, a challenging problem, aggravated by harsh outdoor environments where lines are built. Such must also incorporate an harvesting (EH) unit that supplies necessary electronics. Therefore, EH plays key role, so when designing electronic care be taken select most suitable technology, which is currently evolving rapidly. This work reviews analyzes state-of-the-art technology for focused area with enormous potential expansion. addition recent advances, discusses research needs need addressed. Despite importance topic, there still much investigate, its infancy. Although reviewed, many other applications could potentially benefit from introducing capabilities, transformers, distribution switches, or low- medium-voltage among others.
